Italian surfer Giulia Manfrini, 36, died from a swordfish attack while she was surfing in the waves off the coast of western Java in Indonesia. She was injured in a resulting attack at a depth of five centimeters, and Manfrini was found injured under the water while two other surfers were attempting to help her.

After unsuccessful attempts to save Manfrini's life, she was transported to the Pei Pei Taileleu medical center. At the scene, she was declared dead. At this moment, it is unclear whether she succumbed to her injuries from the encounter or drowned.

After the tragic incident, Manfrini's body was returned to Italy, her native town of Venaria Reale in northern Italy. The mayor expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. The company Naa Laut Mentawai Blue, which provided the surfboards for Giulia, also noted the achievements of the surfer in social media.

"Manfrini was a founding graduate of the legal faculty, already having established the company Awave Travel, specializing in popular tourist destinations for surfers," they stated in their post. In recent months, she had been working in Bali as a surfing instructor.
